Treat irregular regions as the new boxes
A standard Jigsaw Sudoku requires the digits 1 through 9 exactly once in every row, every column, and every outlined region. Each region contains nine cells, but its shape may bend, stretch, or wrap around neighboring areas. The regular 3 by 3 boxes of classic Sudoku no longer apply unless the puzzle explicitly includes them as an extra rule. This is the first habit to establish, because familiar box boundaries can linger in your visual memory even when they have no logical force. Trace each region with your finger or eyes before solving and confirm all nine cells. Give awkward regions temporary names such as top hook or center snake if that helps you relocate them. Shapedoku uses regular 3 by 3 boxes, so moving between the two forms requires a deliberate reset. The row and column rules transfer unchanged, while the third unit changes from square boxes to irregular regions.
Scan where regions cross rows and columns
Irregular boundaries create unusual intersections that are often the key to the puzzle. If all possible positions for a digit inside one region fall in the same row, that digit can be removed from the rest of the row outside the region. The same pointing logic works with columns. Conversely, if every candidate for a digit in one row lies inside a single region, remove that digit from the rest of the region. Because a region may touch a row in one, two, or several separated groups of cells, these interactions are less visually obvious than in classic Sudoku. Mark candidates carefully and search one digit at a time. Regions with narrow arms or single-cell tips deserve attention because crossing rows and columns can constrain them quickly. A digit placed at one end of a winding region may affect a distant cell that still belongs to the same outlined unit.
Use region shape as information, not decoration
Count empty cells and missing digits inside each region just as you would in a classic box. Then inspect how those cells are distributed across rows and columns. If a region has three empty cells in three different rows but two share one column, the crossing structure may separate a candidate pair from the remaining cell. Candidate subsets, hidden singles, and chains all remain valid as long as the irregular region is treated as a full unit. On paper, lightly shade alternate regions or strengthen faint borders so candidates do not drift into the wrong group.
