Why guessing backfires

A guess feels like progress, but it quietly poisons the board. If you guess wrong, every move you make afterward is built on a false value, and the errors spread until the puzzle collapses. Worse, you often cannot tell exactly where it went wrong, so you are left unwinding a tangle or restarting. The time a guess seems to save is almost always paid back with interest.

Guessing robs you of the reward

3. Look for naked and hidden pairs, then pointing pairs, to prune the candidates.
4. If those run dry, learn one advanced pattern like the X Wing and search for it.
5. Take a short break. Fresh eyes find the move that frustration hid.
