Turning animations off in the Shapedoku settings is the go-to move on older or lower-power phones, where fewer visual effects can mean a snappier, steadier experience and slightly better battery life. It is also handy if you prefer a calmer, more static board with less motion on screen. The puzzles play identically either way, so this is purely a comfort and performance choice.

Auto-clean notes on or off

The auto-clean notes toggle governs Smart Notes Cleanup, the feature that tidies your pencil Notes as you play. With it on, placing a final shape automatically removes that shape from your notes in the same row, column, and 3x3 box, which keeps the board readable and cuts busywork, especially on Hard and Extreme. The cleanup is undoable, and you can always add a note back by hand, so nothing is ever lost for good. Prefer full manual control over every mark? Switch auto-clean notes off in the Shapedoku settings and your notes stay exactly as you left them.

The point of the Shapedoku settings is that you configure them once and forget them, since your choices persist locally and follow you into every puzzle, Daily Challenge, and challenge mode. A common comfortable setup is sound off, haptics on, animations on, and auto-clean notes on, but there is no wrong answer.
