The rules do not change
Every rule of Sudoku carries over exactly. Each row, each column and each three by three box must contain all nine symbols once. Every technique you know, from scanning to the X-Wing, works the same. If you can solve Sudoku, you can already solve Shapedoku.
What the shapes change
Numbers carry a sense of order, and that order can quietly mislead. You might expect a 7 near an 8, or read the grid as arithmetic when it is really pure logic. Shapes have no order, so the board reads as what it is, a pattern to complete. Many players find the grid calmer and easier to scan at a glance.
A friendlier, more colorful board
